Circulation Lubrication System

What is circulation lubrication?

The circulation lubrication system is a closed circuit. The so-called circulation lubrication system guarantees a continuous lubricant supply and a constant lubricant inflow as well as a lubricant return. The predefined lubricant quantity is delivered to the lubrication points and is led back into the lubricant tank and brought back into the circulation again. The lubricating process for all connected lubrication points recurs as long as the pump supplies lubricant to the lubricant distributor.

The lubrication procedure is mostly realised with lubricating oil. Lubricating oils have a higher viscosity and therefore they are better suited for this lubrication system than greases. The best-known example is the four stroke-cycle engine.

These circulation lubrication systems mostly consist of the following components:

Lubricating tank

Is a reservoir for lubricants, for example oil and grease

Lubricant pump

The pump draws the lubricant from the tank via the distributors to the lubrication points.

Progressive distributor

The lubricant distributor supplies lubrication points in a progressive order with lubricant. It consists of progressive metering elements and line elements. All components can be combined into one component.

Pipework

Pressure pipelines for supplying the lubrication points with the necessary lubricant quantity and return pipelines for returning the lubricant back to the tank. The high-pressure hoses have to be dimensioned according to the  pressure and flow rates.

Control and cooling devices

Pressure gauge (manometer), universal controller and cooling device for controlling the flow rate, the pressure and the lubricant level in the tank. A cooling aggregate can be inserted in order to lubricate and cool the lubrication points.

Filter and other accessories

Cleaning tools like filters are required to eliminate the impurities as completely as possible from the lubricant before it is sucked again into the circulation. According to the application, a cooling aggregate can be still inserted.

It is absolutely necessary that the working area is completely clean before the first filling of the tank and before refilling the tank.

Closed lubrication circulation systems need fewer lubricants. The re-use of lubricants and the low loss rate contribute to environmental protection.

What are the advantages of circulation lubrication?

  • easy construction
  • low number of construction elements
  • low costs
  • mainly a closed circuit
  • low lubricant losses
  • cooling for the lubrication points is possible
